Unbearable truthmachine (2006)
During my stay in Menorca in the 1990s, I discovered a complete set of encyclopedias in an abandoned house. When I opened the various volumes, I found the illustrations had been censored, with black ink painted over the images. I was intrigued by this “encryption” and discovered the encyclopedias had been altered during Francisco Franco’s dictatorship. I decided to photograph a selection of pages from different volumes. Both Orwell and Kafka have become slightly outdated, one could even say old-fashioned. We have sold our souls and freedom to the invisible mechanisms of the consumption machine.
